Her Facebook status changed to "single?" Ur dumped

LONDON (Reuters) – Digital dumping is on the rise, according to a survey, with growing numbers of people preferring to use email and social networking Web sites to break up with their partners.

Over one third of 2,000 people polled (34 percent) said they had ended a relationship by email, 13 percent had changed their status on Facebook without telling their partners and six percent had released the news unilaterally on Twitter.

By contrast, only two percent had broken up via a mobile phone text.
The rest had split up the old-fashioned way by face-to-face conversation (38 percent) and by telephone (eight percent).

"Digital Dumping will soon take over when it comes to ending a relationship," said Sean Wood, Marketing Manager for DateTheUk dating service for whom the survey was carried out.

"It's often easier, quicker and avoids any misunderstandings."

Yikes, sucks to be them? My personal feeling on this is…it’s not that big of a loss b/c why would you want to be with someone who doesn’t have the decency of telling to you face-to-face. Unless you are a complete psycho who’s going to go postal, you should sit down and tell the person, right?!

Eek, come to think of it…I once broke up with someone over IM but I was in High School so it doesn’t count ;-)

tisk tisk JMay! lol

Yeah Middle School is one thing..
but for grown ups? how lame. It makes sense tho - seeing how technology seems to be replacing actual communication. My 14 yr old sister never even talks to her best friends on the phone.. it's only by text or by Facebook!! (which is non stop of course)

ok ok.. I guess I also have most of my friendships virtually nowadays... EEK!? How lame!.. but to break up? just so heartless.

sounds like the easy way out and I would've loved to not have to face some guys I've broken up with, but serio it is just dumb!

this makes me want to vomit. have we gotten so communication phobic that you can't even have the common respect for a person to break up with them over the phone? I thought breaking up over the phone was bad! just proof of the times I guess...
